Knowit

Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-10-12

The short version

Knowit is a local-first trading journal. Your trades, notes, goals and settings are stored on your own device. We do not run a server that receives them, and there is no cloud sync.

Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to use one of the optional features described below.

What Knowit stores on your device

Your account (name, email, and a salted hash of your password; never the password itself), your trades and journal entries, profile, goals, checklist rules, journal layouts, theme choice and optional AI settings. This is kept in a local SQLite database inside the app's data folder, together with automatic backups.

We do not read, collect or have access to this data.

Optional features that send data

AI assistant, online mode (off by default). The built-in assistant works offline. If you add your own Anthropic API key and turn online mode on, your question, your recent chat messages and summary statistics of your journal (trade counts, win rate, R totals; not individual trade notes or screenshots) are sent to Anthropic to produce an answer. Your key is stored on your device and sent only to Anthropic. Anthropic's own terms and privacy policy apply to that request.

Error reports (off by default). If you switch this on in Settings, crash details (scrubbed of emails and file paths) are sent to Sentry so we can fix bugs.

Anonymous usage counts (off by default). If you switch this on, we receive event names such as "section opened" with a random install ID, through PostHog. Never trades, notes or your email.

Feedback form. If you use the feedback link, it opens a form hosted by Tally; only what you type there is sent.

Both reporting options also require the app's publisher to have configured them. You can turn either off at any time in Settings → About & Support.

Paying for Knowit Pro

Knowit works without any payment details. If you buy Knowit Pro, the payment is handled by the store or payment provider you pay through (for example Google Play, the App Store, or a payment page linked from Knowit). They process your card or mobile-money details; Knowit never sees or stores them.

After you pay you receive a license key. Knowit checks it on your device, using a signature, without contacting any server. The key is stored with your account on your device. A free trial is tracked on your device only.

If you pay by crypto, mobile money or bank/Rise transfer, the app creates a payment proof message (order number, your email, plan, method, the transaction ID you enter and, for mobile money, the phone number you paid from). Nothing is sent automatically: you choose whether to send it, and to whom. The seller uses it to check the payment against a fraud checklist, keeps a payment record (order, amount, method, decision, reviewer) for accounting and refunds, and may block a transaction ID that was reused or faked.

Sign in with Google

At present the "Continue with Google" button creates or opens a local account on your device. It does not contact Google and no Google data is read.

Backups, exports and reports

Backups, JSON/CSV exports and HTML reports contain your trading data in readable form. They are saved wherever you choose. Keep them safe and be careful where you share them. Exports never include passwords or password hashes.

Your choices and deleting your data

You can export your data at any time (Settings → Backup & Data and Reports).

You can delete an account and all of its data from Settings → About & Support → Delete account. Uninstalling the app and deleting its "Knowit Data" folder removes everything, including backups.

Because we hold no copy of your data, we cannot recover it for you. Keep your own backups.

Security

Passwords are stored as salted hashes. Data on your device is only as private as your device: use a screen lock and disk encryption. Anyone with access to your computer account can open the app's data folder.

Children

Knowit is for adults. It is not directed at anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app changes. The date at the top shows the latest version (2026-10-12).
